1956年，出生于遼寧蓋州鲅魚圈。1963年——1969年，就讀于遼寧省實(shí)驗(yàn)學(xué)校。1969年——1974年，就讀于遼寧省實(shí)驗(yàn)中學(xué)。1974年——1978年，在阿魯科爾沁旗上山下鄉(xiāng)。1978年——1983年，就讀于吉林大學(xué)，獲生物化學(xué)理學(xué)學(xué)士。1984年——1990年，就讀于美國(guó)紐約大學(xué)醫(yī)學(xué)系，獲生物醫(yī)學(xué)科學(xué)博士學(xué)位。1990年——1993年，任美國(guó)紐約大學(xué)泌尿系助理教授。1993年——2000年，任美國(guó)華盛頓大學(xué)（西雅圖）醫(yī)學(xué)系基因組學(xué)中心高級(jí)研究員（Senior Fellow, non-tenure faculty position）。2000年——2002年，任美國(guó)華盛頓大學(xué)醫(yī)學(xué)系基因組學(xué)中心高級(jí)研究科學(xué)家。1998年，正式回國(guó)兼職工作，同楊煥明、汪建等人共同發(fā)起并創(chuàng)立了中國(guó)科學(xué)遺傳研究所人類基因組中心。1998年——2006年，任北京華大基因研究中心副主任2000年，正式回國(guó)工作，在美國(guó)華盛頓大學(xué)兼職。2003年——2012年，任中國(guó)科學(xué)院北京基因組研究所副所長(zhǎng)�，F(xiàn)任中國(guó)科學(xué)院北京基因組研究所研究員。社會(huì)任職
