在爵士樂的世界當中，經(jīng)典標準曲目（Standard）最容易獲得票房保證，但同時也考驗樂手詮釋上的創(chuàng)意。曲子既然能成為爵士樂標準，表示已經(jīng)是大眾耳熟能詳，如果沒有加上樂手個人的創(chuàng)新，容易淪為陳腔濫調(diào)，不如回頭去聽原典錄音，但是在Donna Burke的同名專輯當中，卻讓我們聽到清新而舒暢的情調(diào)，挑動著心底潛藏的浪漫。
在爵士樂的世界當中，獨立制片是非常重要的一環(huán)，樂手為了堅持自己的想法，制作自己喜愛的音樂，不跟隨市場潮流起舞，自掏腰包找樂手、購買錄音室時段，用自己的標簽推出唱片，爵士樂的發(fā)行也趨向百家爭鳴。Donna Burke走的也是這樣的一條路，這位澳洲籍的歌手出身Perth小鎮(zhèn)，在Donna的描述中像是一個與世隔絕的世外桃源，不過卻限制不了她向外發(fā)展的雄心壯志。Donna成長在有七個小孩的大家庭中，但卻擁有良好的教育背景，畢業(yè)以后留在當?shù)負卫蠋�，生活雖然順遂，但對音樂的夢想一直沒有改變，直到30歲時她下定決心走音樂的路。
1995年底，Donna Burke離開澳洲，到英國租了車子拜訪朋友，并且在泰晤士報上面找工作，不過最后這位澳洲女孩卻在日本落腳。平�？拷虝鵀樯苣﹦t在酒吧演唱，物質(zhì)生活雖然貧乏，但Donna卻遇見了吉他手Bill Benfield，熱戀之后互定終盟，攜手開創(chuàng)獨立制片的音樂之路。在這張同名專輯之前，Donna曾經(jīng)和其他樂手錄制過單曲，不過真正代表Donna Burke的音樂，卻是從這張同名專輯開始。
雖然早年Donna Burke曾經(jīng)接受過長期的聲樂訓練，不過她似乎更愛爵士樂，全片選錄十四首爵士標準曲目，編曲輕松而有內(nèi)涵。其中以蓋希文的名曲為大宗，包括“The Way You Look Tonight”、“They Canu2019t Take That Away From Me”、“Summertime”等六首經(jīng)典，其他像是“Mona Lisa”，則是早年納金高唱紅的曲子，而“Moon River”則是麥西尼的著名電影配樂。不過吉他手老公Bill Benfield卻沒有在這張唱片中出現(xiàn)，而是由制作人David Silverman領(lǐng)軍的爵士四重奏擔綱演出。錄音移師洛杉磯Madhatter錄音室，采現(xiàn)場即時錄音，在優(yōu)秀的音響系統(tǒng)上，可以表現(xiàn)出鮮活的質(zhì)地，歌手與樂器形體清晰而龐大，而Donna甜美而嫵媚的歌聲，則增添聆聽時的親昵感�，F(xiàn)在的Donna Burke依然活躍在東京的爵士舞臺上，以現(xiàn)場演唱展現(xiàn)其音樂活力，如果你沒辦法去東京聆聽現(xiàn)場，這張專輯可以讓你回到Donna Burke音樂生涯的起點。
曾在2002年上映的日本動畫《灰羽聯(lián)盟》中演唱插曲《Wondering》（灰羽聯(lián)盟動畫第11集，OST曲目#12）。
