歷史
樂隊成立于上個世紀80年代早期，最早的成員有歌手KarenMatheson（她是蘇格蘭著名女歌ElizabethMacNeill的孫女，也曾經(jīng)是一支民謠樂隊theEtives的成員）和鍵盤手DonaldShaw，他們在同一所中學認識。然后樂隊又陸續(xù)加入許多成員，包括寶絲藍鼓（bodhran）手MarcDuff、吉他手JoanMacLachlan、布祖基琴（bouzouki）手ShaunCraig、貝斯和小提琴手MartinMacLeod等。樂隊成立后，在當?shù)氐膸状窝莩鰹樗麄內(nèi)〉昧肆己玫穆曌u。之后樂隊用3天時間快速錄制了他們的第一張專輯，Cascade。
之后的Capercaillie幾經(jīng)人員變動，自始至終參與樂隊的成員只有atheson、Shaw和Duff。1991年，英國小提琴手CharlieMacNeill加入樂隊，這時候他們的第二張專輯Crosswind出版了。又是一張頗受好評的專輯！Capercaillie也因此展開了第一次美國巡演。在Crosswind出版之前他們已經(jīng)在本土得到承認，一部關于蘇格蘭蓋爾人歷史英雄的電視片TheBloodIsStrong找到他們做了Soundtrack。
由于有了愛爾蘭著名的 凱爾特音樂家ManusLunny（寶絲藍鼓手，小提琴手和歌手）的參與，Capercaillie很快成為了凱爾特音樂圈最被看好的樂隊，他們的觀眾群越來越大了。從他們的第四張專輯Sidewaulk開始，在ManusLunny和他的弟弟DonalLunny的參與下，Capercaille也開始在專輯中用英語演唱。第五張專輯Delirium可以看成是他們的音樂事業(yè)的一個高峰，專輯把傳統(tǒng)的蘇格蘭民間音樂和現(xiàn)代音樂元素融合到了一起。他們改編了一首有著400年歷史的民歌CoisichARuin。這首歌最后登上了英國榜前40名的位置，并被一部英國電視片選中成為主題曲。另外一首歌Breisleach的歌詞來自愛丁堡詩人AngusDudb的詩作，也成為另外一部電視的主題曲。
他們的歌很美，很柔軟,好像是貼在你耳朵旁邊訴說著一個故事, 聲音中似乎帶著淡淡的憂傷和思念, 讓你禁不住想起那些的遙遠的事情, 很美的旋律, 它一定會不斷回蕩在你的耳邊.......
關于Capercaillie樂隊的核心成員Karen Matheson，美國告示牌雜志Billboard Magazine：“這個時代最棒的蓋爾語女聲”。
Karen在兒提時期曾參加過Mod音樂節(jié)所辦的歌唱比賽，除得到“最佳歌手”的獎項外，亦在當時得到“當今最美的 凱爾特女聲”贊譽，那時Karen的年紀雖然不大，但卻懂得相當多的凱爾特字匯與傳統(tǒng)歌謠，主要因素是由于Karen的外婆Elizabeth MacNeill是一名傳統(tǒng)歌謠的歌者，她的許多克爾特歌曲都是從那里學來的，而且“雷鳥”樂團之所以有堅實的凱爾特民族元素為創(chuàng)作素材的原因也是源自于此。
“雷鳥”樂團從八四年出版第一張專輯“Cascade”是以民謠團體的姿態(tài)出現(xiàn)，而后該團亦為 凱爾特音樂創(chuàng)作了無限可能的出路，他們嘗試將其民族樂音加以結合轉化，不論流行節(jié)奏還是非洲等其他民族的音樂紋脈皆是他們創(chuàng)作素材，九五年他們參加英國的WOMAD音樂節(jié)時早已是舉世之名的當代凱爾特樂團了。不過在轉化的過程中，該團使用的樂器以及成員架構與來自愛爾蘭的Clannad家族合唱團（Enya的姐姐Maire (Moya) Brennan為主唱）有些近似，也因此許多樂迷都喜歡將這兩團做為比較。若您聽過Clannad與Capercaillie的作品，其實您能發(fā)現(xiàn)這之間還是有明顯不同，前者雖然來自 凱爾特民族根據(jù)地之一的愛爾蘭但是其音樂元素比起后者較感覺不出有凱爾特民族的傳統(tǒng)風韻。
評論
Karen Matheson可以說是最傳統(tǒng)、最正宗的Celtic風格的代表，Clannad樂隊其實無論成就的數(shù)量還是質(zhì)量都無可比性，倒是另外一支著名的Celtic樂隊Altan與之相似程度更高，當然風格也是有差異的。
Karen Matheson的演唱，是一種起伏變化迅速的“哼唱”類型，與Enya的慢速吟唱相比，這樣的風格要想唱得出優(yōu)美、純凈、連貫的旋律，對歌手來說難度極大，但Karen Matheson卻完美地做到了，拋開突出的音樂創(chuàng)作能力不談，這本身就已經(jīng)足夠吸引人了�！斑@個時代最棒的蓋爾語女聲”的確實至名歸。
也許是不懂蓋爾語的緣故，國內(nèi)知道Karen Matheson的本來就不多，大多局限于她的單獨的三張個人專輯，知道把她和Capercaillie（雷鳥）聯(lián)系在一起的人更少（Capercaillie也只在一些Celtic合集里偶爾露面而已），殊不知Karen Matheson的主要成就恰恰就是在Capercaillie之中，這與Celtic在音樂界如雷貫耳的事實很不協(xié)調(diào)。由于搜集的專輯比較多，逐一篩選也是份苦差事，索性直接發(fā)個全集，讓大家自己來鑒賞。
