演藝經(jīng)歷
早年（約1998年）參加了皇家莎士比亞劇團的舞臺演出，出現(xiàn)在《貓》和《麥克白》等音樂劇中。
2001年，在BBC的《doctors》中飾演TomSteele，這是他第一個電視角色。另外參演該電視臺制作的《Casualty》，飾演Craig。
2002年，在BBC制作的《sparkhouse》中扮演農(nóng)場工人JohnStandring。
2003年在Itv《ColdFeet》第5季飾演LeeRichards，《UltimateForce》第2季飾演IanMacalwain，《BetweentheSheets》飾演PaulAndrews。
2004年，他主演了根據(jù)伊麗莎白·蓋斯凱爾小說改編的bbc四集迷你劇《南方與北方》，飾演男一號約翰·桑頓。這是使他大獲成功的一個角色。

2010年開始參與sky1電視臺《反擊》第一季的演出，飾演男主角JohnPorter，第二季因其他合約改為客串演出。
他之前出演過的電影很少，只有1999年《StarWarsⅠ：THEPHANTOMMENACE》（龍?zhí)祝�、《ThisYear’sLove》、《Cleopatra》、2002年的《極限武力》和2004年的《Frozen》。
2011年參演了電影《美國隊長》，此電影由美國迪斯尼公司旗下的漫威娛樂公司制作出品。他在其間飾演反角德國間諜HeinzKruger。
2010年底-2012年7月中旬，參與拍攝了大制作魔幻電影《魔戒前傳-霍比特人TheHobbit》，此片制片商為.華納兄弟公司，新線電影公司和米高梅公司共同發(fā)行。導(dǎo)演為彼得·杰克遜PeterJackson。RA扮演了重要角色矮人王ThorinOakenshield索林·橡木盾。此電影分為3部，第1部《意外之旅TheHobbit:AnUnexpectedJourney》于2012年底全球公映。第2部《史矛革荒漠TheHobbit:TheDesolationofSmaug》和《去而復(fù)歸TheHobbit:ThereandBackAgain》分別于2013年12月和2014年7月左右上映。
2012年7月下旬—9月下旬拍攝了驚悚電影《CategorySix》又名《BlackSky》，2013年上映，導(dǎo)演StevenQuale。
2014年，他出演了The Old Vic的舞臺劇The Crucible，在其中飾演男主角John Proctor。同年，他參與拍攝了心理驚悚片Sleepwalker，在其中飾演男主角Dr Scott White。
2018年6月8日，出演的電影《瞞天過海：美人計》在北美上映。
