生平
勞倫斯·凡·德·普斯特1906年生于南非聯(lián)邦，是家里的第13個(gè)孩子。1925年因協(xié)助創(chuàng)辦一本反種族隔離政策的雜志（The Natal Advertiser），而被迫離開南非。
1935年出版處女作《在某省》（Ancestorsln a Province），這是第一本出自南非人之手的反種族歧視小說。
第二次世界大戰(zhàn)期間受困日本戰(zhàn)俘營的經(jīng)驗(yàn)對(duì)他產(chǎn)生深遠(yuǎn)影響，作品《種子與播種者》（The Seed and He Sower，1963）、《新月之夜》（The Night ofHe New Moon，1970）和《日本素描》（Porail of Japan，1968）都是以這段經(jīng)驗(yàn)為基礎(chǔ)而寫成。 1950年代起，他開始探索非洲并引為創(chuàng)作題材。兩本描述沙漠布須曼人的著作《卡拉哈里沙漠的失落世界》（The lost World ofHe Kalahari，1958）和《獵人之心》（The Heart of the Hunter，1961），世人贊譽(yù)為拯救這支神秘種族免于絕種的命運(yùn)的書。 一生共撰述二十本著作，其余包括：《風(fēng)之家族·非洲內(nèi)陸的最后長征》（Venture to the Interior,1950）、《如風(fēng)的故事》（A Story Like a Wind，1972）、《遠(yuǎn)方》（A For Off Place，1974）、《榮格與我們時(shí)代的故事》（Jung and the Story of Our Time，1975）等。
1981年榮獲大不列顛帝國騎士勛章。1996年逝世，享年90歲。
