Laboratory of Structural Virology and Immunology was established in 2006 as a joint program between Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo and Institute of Biophysics.
In our group, we are studying the structure-function relationship of viral proteins derived from HIV-1, a causative agent of AIDS.
The major target of our current investigation is the envelope protein (Env) and the mechanisms of membrane fusion mediated by Env.
We are also employing protein-engineering techniques to develop versatile reporter proteins useful for the analysis of membrane fusion.
