早年經(jīng)歷
齊格蒙德出生于匈牙利，在蘇聯(lián)進(jìn)攻匈牙利的1956年離開祖國(guó)，1962年加入美國(guó)國(guó)籍。早期在美國(guó)曾以威廉之名拍攝B級(jí)電影，并以四處打工維持生計(jì)。在逃亡當(dāng)時(shí)，他曾拍下蘇聯(lián)軍隊(duì)鎮(zhèn)壓布達(dá)佩斯市民抵抗的畫面帶往美國(guó)。1999年獲得美國(guó)電影攝影師協(xié)會(huì)功勞獎(jiǎng)。
演藝經(jīng)歷
齊格蒙德善于運(yùn)用自然光攝影，在20世紀(jì)70年代被視為美國(guó)電影新浪潮先鋒。他曾與《黑色大麗花》導(dǎo)演布萊恩德帕爾瑪有過多次合作，1981年的《兇線》，1990年的《夜都迷情》也都由其掌鏡。

2016年1月，維爾莫斯·齊格蒙德于美國(guó)加利福尼亞州大瑟爾去世，享年85歲。
