念紐約大學(xué)戲劇系時(shí)，麥卡錫就開始在劇場(chǎng)登臺(tái)表演，1983年《高材生》籌拍，他從數(shù)百名應(yīng)試者中脫穎而出，展開演藝生涯，亦決定放棄未完的學(xué)業(yè)。

《緋聞女孩》新一季其中一集,將由80年代銀幕偶像安德魯·麥卡錫執(zhí)導(dǎo)。他承諾在明年春季向廣大觀眾交上滿意的答卷,并保證與原先的作品風(fēng)格一致。
安德魯·麥卡錫可能并不為當(dāng)下年輕人了解,不過他領(lǐng)銜主演的《紅粉佳人》和《零度下的激情》無疑是80年代的代表作,因此他有著“80年代銀幕偶像”的稱號(hào)。另外,安德魯還在短命劇集《口紅叢林》中,曾扮演時(shí)裝設(shè)計(jì)師Victory的億萬富翁男友,并且在早前的《緋聞女孩:特別版》中扮演Lily的父親。
