人物經(jīng)歷
1975年畢業(yè)于香港中文大學(xué)經(jīng)濟系，取得社會科學(xué)學(xué)士（經(jīng)濟學(xué)）一級榮譽成績，獲得經(jīng)濟學(xué)學(xué)士學(xué)位；
1977年美國加州大學(xué)柏克萊分校經(jīng)濟系碩士；
1980年獲取美國加州大學(xué)柏克萊分校經(jīng)濟系博士學(xué)位；
1980年任美國佛羅里達州立大學(xué)經(jīng)濟系助理教授，1985年晉升副教授并獲終身教職；
1992年加入香港科技大學(xué)，為創(chuàng)校成員之一，任香港科技大學(xué)經(jīng)濟系教授，其后歷任商學(xué)院經(jīng)濟系系主任、副院長、哲學(xué)博士及工商管理碩士課程主任等職。
1995年起任香港科技大學(xué)經(jīng)濟系主任，曾任復(fù)旦大學(xué)客座教授及汕頭大學(xué)兼任教授；
1993年-1996年任香港科技大學(xué)工商管理學(xué)院副院長；
2009年獲委任為香港科技大學(xué)商學(xué)院院長；
2009年至2013年間擔(dān)任香港科技大學(xué)工商管理學(xué)院（香港科大商學(xué)院）院長；
2013年獲嶺南大學(xué)校長遴選委員會推薦接任校長，但其親梁振英的政治背景備受質(zhì)疑，因而受到學(xué)生會強烈反對。
2013年9月出任香港嶺南大學(xué)校長。
社會兼職
曾任《國際經(jīng)濟學(xué)報》及《太平洋經(jīng)濟評論》兩份學(xué)術(shù)期刊副編輯。
