This artist was famous in the 19 century for his subject matter of farmers lifes. Often he painted daily lifes inside farmer houses with their families, or outside scenes together with animals, like horses, cows and chicken.

He was a master with high skills to combine daylight and shadows which bring warm light into his works. Most subjects are very romantic with calm and relaxed atmosphere in his subjects.

His paintings are represented in English museums and private collections.

This particular painting was formerly owned by an aristocratic family in a castle of northern England.
