生平
戴蒙出生于波士頓，父親為一位醫(yī)生，母親為一位兼具語言學(xué)能力的音樂老師。戴蒙畢業(yè)于Roxbury拉丁學(xué)校后，在1958年獲得哈佛大學(xué)文學(xué)士學(xué)位，于1961年獲得劍橋大學(xué)膜生物物理及生理學(xué)博士學(xué)位。1962年至1966年返回哈佛擔(dān)任基礎(chǔ)研究員，在1966年擔(dān)任加州大學(xué)洛杉磯分校（UCLA）醫(yī)學(xué)院的教授一職。在他二十余歲時(shí)，他同時(shí)研究新幾內(nèi)亞的鳥類生態(tài)與演化行為，并多次探險(xiǎn)新幾內(nèi)亞與其周圍的群島。在他五十余歲時(shí)，戴蒙進(jìn)行環(huán)境史的研究，并擔(dān)任加州大學(xué)的地理與環(huán)境健康科學(xué)的教授。
