傳記
喬治·克雷布于1754年12月24日生于英國(guó)英格蘭東區(qū)域薩�？丝W爾德堡，父親是收稅人員。他小時(shí)已對(duì)詩(shī)有興趣。1768年，他成為當(dāng)?shù)蒯t(yī)生的學(xué)徒，不久就改投其他醫(yī)生門下，并移居薩福克郡伍德布里奇。他在伍德布里奇結(jié)識(shí)了未來(lái)的妻子薩拉·埃爾米（Sarah Elmy）。1775年，他自行出版首本詩(shī)集《陶醉》（Inebriety）。

^ 紀(jì)念碑全文：“SACRED to the memory of THE REVd G. CRABBE L.L.B.who died on the 3rd of February 1832 in the 78th year of his ageand the 18th year of his services as rector of this parish.Born in humble life, he made himself what he was; breaking through the obscurity of his birth by the force of his genius; yet he never ceased to feel for the less fortunate; entering, as his works can testify, into the sorrows and wants of the poorest of his parishioners, and so discharging the duties of a pastor and a magistrate as to endear himself to all around him, as a writer he cannot be better described than in the words of a great poet, his contemporary, "tho’ nature’s sternest painter, yet her best".This monument was erected by some of his affectionate friends and parishioners”
