經(jīng)歷
1946年 在賽普勒斯卡拉瓦斯出生，希臘裔。他在那念書、長大，直至 18 歲。
1964年 來到英國，學(xué)了兩年英語，后進入倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)化學(xué)。1969年 在 Bedford College 取得理學(xué)學(xué)位。
1972年 取得倫敦大學(xué)學(xué)院博士學(xué)位，師從 F. Sondheimer 和 P. J. Garratt 教授。
1972年 來到美國，在哥倫比亞大學(xué)（1972－1973，師從 T. J. Katz 教授），哈佛大學(xué)（1973－1976，師從 E. J. Corey），獲博士后。后成為賓夕法尼亞大學(xué)的 Rhodes-Thompson 化學(xué)教授。
1989年 被任命為圣地牙哥加利福尼亞大學(xué)化學(xué)教授，斯克里普斯研究所（Scripps Research Institute）Darlene Shiley 教授、化學(xué)系主任。
1996年 被任命為 Scripps 研究所的 Aline W. 和 L.S. Skaggs 化學(xué)生物學(xué)教授。
研究領(lǐng)域
主要對天然產(chǎn)物全合成、全合成策略進行研究。已合成的標(biāo)志性分子有：
endiandric acids、amphotericin B、calicheamicin1I、rapamycin、紫杉醇（Taxol）、zaragozic acid、brevetoxin B、brevetoxin A、埃博霉素（the epothilones）、eleutherobin、萬古霉素（vancomycin）、the CP-molecules、sanglifehrin、the bisorbicillinoids、apoptolidin、the coleophomones、diazonamide A、1-O-methyllateriflorone、the azaspiracids、thiostrepton、the bisanthraquinones、the abyssomicins、the marinomycins、platensimycin、uncialamycin、biyouyanagin、platencin、cortistatin 和 turbinamycin 等。
