出生于美國(guó) 內(nèi)布拉斯加州奧馬哈市的Conor Oberst成長(zhǎng)在一個(gè)藝術(shù)家庭。在他兩歲時(shí)，他母親便發(fā)現(xiàn)他有很好的鋼琴天賦。在10歲時(shí)，他的父親和哥哥便開始教他吉他，剛只學(xué)會(huì)2個(gè)和弦的他便已經(jīng)開始寫歌。從此，這個(gè)音樂(lè)天才開始進(jìn)入人們的視線。

十二歲時(shí)，Conor受Cursive樂(lè)隊(duì)邀請(qǐng)，第一次登臺(tái)演出。1993，十三歲的Conor推出了自己的首張專輯《Water》，其發(fā)行商是 Conor的哥哥Justin創(chuàng)立的Lumberjack Records。94年，Oberst和他的朋友Joel Petersen, Todd Fink 、Clark Baechle組建了樂(lè)隊(duì) Norman Bailer，后來(lái)改名為The Faint。同年，Conor和Tim Kasher,、Todd Baechle 、Robb Nansel一起創(chuàng)建樂(lè)隊(duì)Commander Venus。其是一只EMO風(fēng)格的樂(lè)隊(duì)。96年，The Magnetas誕生，但就在同年消亡，其成員是Conor和Todd Fink，Chris Hughes。96至98年，Conor還在樂(lè)隊(duì)Park Ave擔(dān)任鼓手，98年時(shí)，樂(lè)隊(duì)解散。此外，Conor還組建了很多樂(lè)隊(duì)，包括01年的一只朋克樂(lè)隊(duì)Desaparecidos以及為了自己以個(gè)人名義發(fā)表專輯而于07年組建的Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band等。

上訴的樂(lè)隊(duì)所持續(xù)的時(shí)間都不長(zhǎng)（至2009年），但Conor的有一只樂(lè)隊(duì)卻是例外，那就是他在15歲創(chuàng)建的樂(lè)隊(duì)——Bright Eyes。其成員包括Conor Oberst u2013 vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar、Mike Mogis u2013 banjo, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, electric guitar、Nate Walcott u2013 organ, trumpet, accordion, keytar以及隨時(shí)從Omaha’s indie music scene中簽訂短期合作的成員。樂(lè)隊(duì)的名稱來(lái)自Conor看過(guò)得一部 電影�，F(xiàn)樂(lè)隊(duì)屬Saddle Creek Records旗下。

已經(jīng)不記得這是Conor Oberst率領(lǐng)的第幾支樂(lè)隊(duì)了，總之在他的這幾支樂(lè)隊(duì)甚至他個(gè)人的演藝生涯里，Monsters of Folk才應(yīng)該最受矚目，這支四人編制的民謠樂(lè)隊(duì)集結(jié)了Conor Oberst自己、Bright Eyes的班卓琴手Mike Mogis、My Morning Jacket的主唱Jim James以及獨(dú)立民謠唱將M. Ward。早在2004年，這幾個(gè)才華橫溢的家伙就因?yàn)楦�隨當(dāng)時(shí)自己各自的樂(lè)隊(duì)巡演而彼此結(jié)識(shí)，對(duì)鄉(xiāng)村民謠音樂(lè)相似的見解讓四個(gè)人決定組成一支獨(dú)立隊(duì)伍，取名“Monsters of Folk”，經(jīng)過(guò)相互磨合，四人將這五年間共同創(chuàng)作而出的作品集合成這張包含十五首歌曲的樂(lè)隊(duì)同名專輯，這當(dāng)中既有單人演唱也有四人的合唱曲目，第一曲《Dear God》就因 器樂(lè)編配上涉及到東方樂(lè)器而令人耳前一亮，之后的曲目盡管亮點(diǎn)不多卻也保持了四個(gè)創(chuàng)作人的水準(zhǔn)，這張重量級(jí)唱片就是這樣以備受矚目的樂(lè)隊(duì)成員而好評(píng)如潮。

Conor的音樂(lè)靈感主要來(lái)自于旅行。正是因?yàn)樗麖牟辉谝粋�(gè)地方待上3個(gè)月以上的怪癖，才使得他可以有無(wú)數(shù)風(fēng)格迥異的優(yōu)秀作品。為代表的是05年一口氣發(fā)行的兩張風(fēng)格格格不入的專輯——《I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning》和《Digital Ash in a Digital Urn》。前者依舊是充滿了往常的鄉(xiāng)謠色彩，像在城市上空飛翔的感覺，而后者則充滿了死亡的氣息，電子味十足。更為直接的代表就是直接以地名為題的《Cassadaga》，整張專輯不如說(shuō)都是在展示Conor在這座心理學(xué)研究中心所在小鎮(zhèn)的旅行雜記。

Conor的作品之所以優(yōu)秀，還因?yàn)樗��?dú)特的敘事性的詞。因?yàn)槠湓~的優(yōu)秀，很多人都習(xí)慣于將他和作詞大師Bob Dylan相比較。但2000年之前的Conor，作詞的范圍還僅限于自我意識(shí)的范疇，愛情和死亡時(shí)Conor的中心。直到布什上任，直到 9.11，Conor真正地和Bob Dylan一樣，用歌詞來(lái)抨擊政治。01年，Conor曾鮮明地表示過(guò)自己的觀點(diǎn)——反消費(fèi)主義，反商業(yè)主義，反美國(guó)。Conor的歌詞 不可以不稱為膽大，充滿了像《When The President Talks To God》那種赤裸裸地諷刺以及《Hot Knives》里的挑逗。而08年2月7日，Conor甚至在奧巴馬在Omaha的政治集會(huì)上演唱，無(wú)不顯示著他在政治方面的“熱情”。
