1971年2月，肖恩·奧斯汀出生在加利福尼亞的圣莫尼卡，父親約翰·奧斯�。↗ohn Astin）和母親帕蒂·杜克（Patty Duke）都是著名演員，耳濡目染的肖恩小小年紀(jì)就對表演產(chǎn)生興趣，1981年9歲的他與母親一起出演了電視劇集《Please Don’t Hit Me, Mom》，4年后他在大銀幕亮相，出演了《七寶奇謀》 （The Goonies）并獲得一系列好角色的邀約。肖恩曾在Crossroads高中學(xué)習(xí)藝術(shù)，還拜過斯特拉-阿德勒（Stella Adler）為師，作為年輕演員，青春喜劇總是不可避免的類型，肖恩也不例外。1987年他與另一位青春偶像柯克·卡梅隆（Kirk Cameron）聯(lián)袂主演了《有其父必有其子》（Like Father Like Son）后，又接連在《校園英雄隊》 （Toy Soldiers）、《Where the Day Takes You》、《追夢赤子心》（Rudy）和《Harrison Bergeron》等幾部佳作中露面。
