　　4 Non Blondes成立于1989年，美國(guó)的San Francisco市，當(dāng)時(shí)Christa Hillhouse（貝司手）和Shaunna Hall（吉他手）同為室友，他們當(dāng)時(shí)和Wanda Day（鼓手）想組一個(gè)臨時(shí)性的樂隊(duì)，但缺一個(gè)主唱，Christa在一個(gè)名為Nightbreak的俱樂部的舞臺(tái)上發(fā)現(xiàn)了Linda Perry，他立刻被Linda那充滿力量和夢(mèng)幻般的嗓音迷住了，于是他邀請(qǐng)Linda擔(dān)當(dāng)他們樂隊(duì)的主唱，Linda當(dāng)時(shí)并未當(dāng)回事，直到她親眼看到了他們?nèi)�位的現(xiàn)場(chǎng)演出后，才決定加入樂隊(duì)，這支樂隊(duì)的首場(chǎng)演出是在1989年10月17日Nightbreak俱樂部里一個(gè)每周固定節(jié)目“Female Trouble”里，這個(gè)節(jié)目推出的樂隊(duì)都是以女性為核心的樂隊(duì)，如：She Devils, Spokepoker, Stone Fox, Mermaid Tattoo, Lovedog……這些樂隊(duì)都很不錯(cuò)，音樂也很猛烈。這個(gè)俱樂部也是整個(gè)SF市最好的，里面都是有著搖滾激情的人。4NB在這里度過愉快的時(shí)期，并開始在城市里尋找其他的演出機(jī)會(huì)。

　　4NB的早期音樂風(fēng)格基本上都是狂躁的punk樂，Wanda擊打出硬核朋克的鼓聲，Linda爆炸般的嗓音，Christa的貝司始終來(lái)回于硬核和瘋克之間，而Shaunna的3和弦吉他技術(shù)構(gòu)筑了整個(gè)4NB早期的主要音樂風(fēng)格，隨著樂隊(duì)演出機(jī)會(huì)的增加，他們的名聲也越來(lái)越響亮。但隨之而來(lái)的批評(píng)也越來(lái)越多，樂隊(duì)似乎要用更大的噪音去抵抗一些刺耳的噓聲和惡意的詆毀。“在當(dāng)時(shí)，并不是有現(xiàn)在這么多的女性活躍在搖滾舞臺(tái)上，因此我們受到了許多其他樂隊(duì)或俱樂部里的各類人等的嘲笑和諷刺。這促使我們更努力地投入到音樂中，我們每周都有那么四、五天每天重復(fù)聽3、4個(gè)小時(shí)的音樂，當(dāng)某人想說(shuō)些屁話來(lái)譏笑我們時(shí)，我們就會(huì)在舞臺(tái)上愉快地用音樂去還擊他。我已經(jīng)彈了15年琴了，所以我們樂隊(duì)里每一個(gè)人都對(duì)自己的音樂技術(shù)和水平充滿了自信�！�

　　在早期的樂隊(duì)詞曲創(chuàng)作中，幾乎都是由Shaunna Hall一人包辦，也許只有樂隊(duì)創(chuàng)作的第一首歌“Whole lotta love”例外。但在不久后，Linda開始成為樂隊(duì)詞曲創(chuàng)作的核心，Wanda和Christa一般喜歡在排練前彈彈groove來(lái)熱身。有時(shí)他們這些即興彈奏的片段就成了樂隊(duì)的歌曲。然后由Linda配好詞，如歌曲“Old Mr Heffer”“No place like home”就是這樣創(chuàng)作出來(lái)的。Linda有時(shí)也和Shaunna共同創(chuàng)作一些歌曲，但通常她喜歡獨(dú)自一人冥思苦想。每當(dāng)創(chuàng)作出一些新的音樂作品時(shí)，他們都會(huì)把它立刻放在晚上的演出里。但有時(shí)4NB會(huì)很玩笑地把剛學(xué)會(huì)的一首歌加入到演出節(jié)目中，由于此時(shí)4NB樂隊(duì)并不能靠俱樂部演出來(lái)維持生活，他們四人白天都需要工作，而Linda是樂隊(duì)里第一個(gè)辭退餐館的女招待工作而專心投入到音樂中來(lái)的，因?yàn)樗龑?duì)每日清晨縈繞在耳邊的鈴聲和嘈雜的工作厭倦透了。不久，Charista也辭去了他的固定工作，他已經(jīng)在白日會(huì)計(jì)師夜里音樂家的角色變換中持續(xù)了十年了。四人陸續(xù)都辭去自己的工作，開始從當(dāng)初業(yè)余心態(tài)去玩音樂中轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)橐源藶槁殬I(yè)的專業(yè)態(tài)度。但他們的音樂之旅并不順利，錄制的小樣并未得到唱片公司的垂青，在經(jīng)濟(jì)上陷入了窘迫之境，他們不久就負(fù)債累累，這幾乎也是許多搖滾樂隊(duì)成立之初的慣例。
