1978年至1982年，淮北煤炭師范學(xué)院（淮北師范大學(xué)）數(shù)學(xué)系學(xué)習(xí)，獲理學(xué)學(xué)士學(xué)位。

1982年至1985年，淮北煤炭師范學(xué)院（淮北師范大學(xué)）數(shù)學(xué)系教師。

1985年至1988年，山東大學(xué)數(shù)學(xué)系碩士研究生，獲理學(xué)碩士學(xué)位。

1988年至1989年，淮北煤炭師范學(xué)院數(shù)學(xué)系講師。

1989年至1991年，淮北煤炭師范學(xué)院數(shù)學(xué)系副主任。

1991年至1993年，復(fù)旦大學(xué)數(shù)學(xué)系博士研究生，獲理學(xué)博士學(xué)位。1993年，晉升為教授。

1992年7月，加入中國(guó)共產(chǎn)黨。1993年至1995年，中國(guó)科學(xué)院數(shù)學(xué)研究所博士后，完成博士后研究以后，相繼在法國(guó)CIEP研修。

1995年至1997年，淮北煤炭師范學(xué)院副院長(zhǎng)。

1997年至2003年，中國(guó)礦業(yè)大學(xué)副校長(zhǎng)，中國(guó)礦業(yè)大學(xué)（北京）副校長(zhǎng)。

2003年7月至2014年1月，中國(guó)礦業(yè)大學(xué)（北京）校長(zhǎng)。

2013年8月，北京郵電大學(xué)校長(zhǎng)。

2014年1月，免去中國(guó)礦業(yè)大學(xué)（北京）校長(zhǎng)職務(wù)。

喬建永教授長(zhǎng)期從事復(fù)分析、動(dòng)力系統(tǒng)及其應(yīng)用方面的學(xué)術(shù)研究，研究成果涉及復(fù)解析動(dòng)力系統(tǒng)，亞純函數(shù)理論，物理和工程問(wèn)題中的解析方法等多個(gè)方面。

研究成果發(fā)表在Commun. Math. Phys.，Science in China等國(guó)內(nèi)外專業(yè)學(xué)術(shù)刊物上。承擔(dān)國(guó)家自然科學(xué)基金及國(guó)家科技部重點(diǎn)科研項(xiàng)目多項(xiàng)：

在中國(guó)礦業(yè)大學(xué)（北京）倡導(dǎo)構(gòu)建研究型本科教育體系和開放式研究生教育體系，大力加強(qiáng)教學(xué)團(tuán)隊(duì)、科研團(tuán)隊(duì)和學(xué)科平臺(tái)建設(shè)。在《理論動(dòng)態(tài)》，《中國(guó)高等教育》等刊物上發(fā)表高等教育管理研究文章多篇。

多次應(yīng)邀赴美國(guó)、英國(guó)、法國(guó)、德國(guó)、俄羅斯、日本和韓國(guó)等國(guó)二十余所大學(xué)和科研院所交流訪問(wèn)。
