人物簡(jiǎn)介
在耶魯大學(xué)讀書時(shí)，遇到第二次世界大戰(zhàn)爆發(fā)，應(yīng)召入伍，服役空軍。退役后擔(dān)任夏季巡回劇團(tuán)的舞臺(tái)經(jīng)理，后又升為導(dǎo)演，1947年到1949年在哥倫比亞和南卡羅拉納城的劇場(chǎng)活動(dòng)。1949年擔(dān)任NBC電視導(dǎo)演，制作不少電視片。1955年從影，導(dǎo)演改編電視片的《馬蒂》榮獲奧斯卡最佳影片、最佳導(dǎo)演、最佳男主角三項(xiàng)金像獎(jiǎng)，奠定了一流導(dǎo)演的地位。后來(lái)又導(dǎo)演了《鴛鴦譜》、《白發(fā)紅顏未了情》等杰作。到了60年代，他的藝術(shù)抱負(fù)終于抵不過(guò)現(xiàn)實(shí)的困擾，作品由新而俗，到《莫負(fù)今宵》等片推出，便令人有搖頭三嘆之感。
