生于倫敦，畢業(yè)于倫敦音樂戲劇學(xué)院。畢業(yè)后在倫敦與曼徹斯特劇團演過《理查三世》、《櫻桃園》、《基度山恩仇記》等劇目。1996年以描寫天才畫家畢加索情史的《狂愛走一回》一片受到注意。兩年之后又在頗受好評的《楚門的世界》中，飾演真心關(guān)愛男主角吉姆．凱瑞的善良角色，令人留下深刻而美好的印象。2000年主演有音樂喜劇片《空愛一場》。
索德伯格對她評價甚高："她讓我想起了60、70年代法國那些極其優(yōu)秀的女演員，比如讓娜·莫羅，和多米尼克·桑德。她們是機智、性感、復(fù)雜的女人，不是姑娘，而是女人。
