1975年畢業(yè)于淄博一中高21級，當(dāng)年插隊(duì)落戶于臨淄區(qū)城關(guān)公社蔣王村。1977年考入復(fù)旦大學(xué)國際政治系，1983年留學(xué)美國斯坦福大學(xué)社會學(xué)系，導(dǎo)師為著名組織理論家James March教授。1991年于斯坦福大學(xué)獲博士學(xué)位后，曾先后應(yīng)聘于美國一流學(xué)府康奈爾大學(xué)、杜克大學(xué)。
