1989年獲華中農(nóng)業(yè)大學(xué)學(xué)士學(xué)位；2003年獲中國(guó)科學(xué)院水生生物研究所博士學(xué)位。2003-2004年香港浸會(huì)大學(xué)生物學(xué)作高級(jí)訪問(wèn)學(xué)者。承擔(dān)和參加了多項(xiàng)科學(xué)項(xiàng)目，包括中國(guó)國(guó)家自然科學(xué)基金項(xiàng)目、水專項(xiàng)、973項(xiàng)目、農(nóng)業(yè)部、中科院創(chuàng)新項(xiàng)目等。主要研究興趣是內(nèi)陸水體無(wú)脊椎動(dòng)物學(xué)。近期關(guān)注的問(wèn)題有：無(wú)脊椎動(dòng)物分類與多樣性編目；無(wú)脊椎動(dòng)物的多樣性格局與驅(qū)動(dòng)過(guò)程；瀕危無(wú)脊椎動(dòng)物的致危過(guò)程與機(jī)制；基于無(wú)脊椎動(dòng)物的內(nèi)陸水體健康狀況評(píng)價(jià)；河流無(wú)脊椎動(dòng)物多樣性研究。
