　　很多人都是從那部《The Piano》的配樂(lè)開(kāi)始了解即而喜愛(ài)上了Michael Nyman，《The Piano》中雖然也有弦樂(lè)，主角是鋼琴，畢竟故事是以鋼琴及其女主人公展開(kāi)，弦樂(lè)方面相對(duì)弱了許多，但這也不是最主要的。雖然這張OST在當(dāng)年賣(mài)出了幾百萬(wàn)張的天文數(shù)字，但卻在爭(zhēng)奪奧斯卡最佳配樂(lè)獎(jiǎng)時(shí)輸給了John Williams的《辛德勒的名單》。這張OST中的音樂(lè)《The Promise》4年后被王菲的一首經(jīng)典歌曲《暗涌》所用，只是曲作者竟然成了陳輝陽(yáng)。

　　1978年10月，他在樂(lè)評(píng)里首次將簡(jiǎn)約主義(Minimalism)應(yīng)用于音樂(lè)上。 后來(lái)邁克爾·尼曼遇到了他以后的好朋友兼老搭檔Peter Greenaway，兩人首次合作是1978年的《1-100》。Peter Greenaway后來(lái)的作品，諸如《The Draughtsmanu2019s Contract》（繪畫(huà)師的合同），《動(dòng)物園》，《Drowning By Numbers》(挨個(gè)淹死)，《廚師、大盜、他的妻子和她的情人》及《普羅斯佩羅的魔典》也都與其合作。 除了Peter Greenaway之外，和他合作過(guò)的導(dǎo)演還有Robert Young、Patrice Lecotne、Jane Campion、Diane Kurys、Neil Jordan、Michael Winterbotton等。

　　1999年，Michael Nyman與Blur的主音歌手Damon Albarn聯(lián)手打造了一張電影原聲專(zhuān)輯《Ravenous》（貪婪）。電影本身好看與否暫且不論，但專(zhuān)輯確實(shí)是紅了一把，而在配樂(lè)當(dāng)中使用Banjo（一種非洲的樂(lè)器）或許就是Michael Nyman的主意，畢竟他在早年曾去羅馬尼亞采過(guò)風(fēng)，極擅長(zhǎng)汲取各民族的民間音樂(lè)。專(zhuān)輯中有許多八十年代早期的老歌，經(jīng)Michael Nyman重新編排后，一首首平淡無(wú)奇的樂(lè)曲再次聽(tīng)來(lái)會(huì)覺(jué)得有趣味許多。

　　2000年5月6-7日，Michael Nyman曾訪臺(tái)參加臺(tái)北國(guó)際城市藝術(shù)節(jié)，帶著的是他的Michael Nyman Band。同期赴臺(tái)演出的有英國(guó)的Fantastical voyage科幻喜劇、Le jardin delices的梨園幽夢(mèng)、韓國(guó)的歌舞料理王（Cookinu2019）及加拿大女高音Natalie Choquette。

　　另外，他還出演過(guò):情欲九歌 9 Songs (2004)和Colonna sonora (1992)。

　　RotoVision書(shū)局于2000年出版《film music screencraft》，書(shū)里有關(guān)于Michael Nyman的詳細(xì)介紹，還有其他的一些著名配樂(lè)大師也列在其中。

　　Nyman’s "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" (from The Piano) was used as backing music for one of the bank advertisements for Lloyds TSB broadcast on television. It has also been featured in episodes of 20/20.

　　"Sheep & Tides" (from Drowning by Numbers) was featured in a commercial in which a woman smashes a man’s car.

　　Music from Ravenous has been used at least once on WFYI’s Across Indiana, in a segment titled "On the Trail of John Hunt Morgan", produced by Scott Andrew Hutchins.

　　A Cock and Bull Story contains music from The Draughtsman’s Contract, as well as Nyman’s arrangements of classical music used in Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon (it does not use any music from Nyman’s Tristram Shandy opera).

　　Nyman’s music for Peter Greenaway’s films has been used in the Japanese television program Iron Chef.

　　Popular "Chasing Sheep is Best Left to Shepherds" (from The Draughtsman’s Contract) constituted the main theme of Spanish TV program Queremos Saber, presented by Mercedes Milà in the nineties.

　　Nyman features in ’Nine Songs’ (Michaeil Winterbottom, 2004) playing at the Royal Albert Hall.

　　Nyman’s MGV: Musique à grande vitesse was used in November 2006 for a new 1-act ballet for the Royal Ballet in London, DGV (danse à grande vitesse) by Christopher Wheeldon.

　　Nyman’s "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" was covered by the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Nyman refused it to be released.
