1981年9月考取西北大學數(shù)學系基礎數(shù)學專業(yè)本科生，1985年 7月獲學士學位。1985年9月考取西北大學數(shù)學系基礎數(shù)學專業(yè)拓撲學方向碩士生，1988年7月獲碩士學位。 1991年9月考取四川大學數(shù)學系基礎數(shù)學專業(yè)拓撲學方向博士生，1994年7月獲博士學位。工作情況 1988年至1991年在西北大學數(shù)學系相繼任助教和講師。1994年至1996年在西北大學數(shù)學系任講師。1996年至2009在西北大學數(shù)學系任副教授。2009年至今在西北大學數(shù)學系任教授。

1996年至2002年任西北大學數(shù)學系副主任，主管教學工作。1997年至今任《純粹數(shù)學與應用數(shù)學》編委。2008年至今任美國《數(shù)學評論》評論員。
