1992年當(dāng)珊文·鈴木12歲時(shí)，她自己和其他4個(gè)小女孩籌錢(qián)到巴西的里約熱內(nèi)盧還組成了“兒童環(huán)境組織”，在聯(lián)合國(guó)的地球峰會(huì)上，她做了6分鐘的發(fā)言。

一開(kāi)始大家覺(jué)得這只是漫長(zhǎng)會(huì)議中的另一場(chǎng)發(fā)言而已，隨著她大聲說(shuō)出的每一句話，會(huì)場(chǎng)開(kāi)始變得非常安靜。坐在聽(tīng)眾席上的高官、重要人物、各國(guó)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)、科學(xué)家們，有的表情尷尬，有的似乎被什么擊中，有的開(kāi)始擦眼淚。還有更多的人，他們低下了頭，好象不知道該怎么和這個(gè)小孩對(duì)視。

一年后，她在中國(guó)北京獲得聯(lián)合國(guó)環(huán)境規(guī)劃署頒發(fā)的“全球五百精英榮譽(yù)獎(jiǎng)”（Global 500 Roll of Honor Award）。

2002年她主持?jǐn)?shù)個(gè)電視節(jié)目，其中包括在探索頻道（Discovery Channel）播出的“鈴木自然探索節(jié)目”（Suzukiu2019s Nature Quest）。她和朋友于2002年在約翰內(nèi)斯堡的聯(lián)合國(guó)世界高峰會(huì)議上，發(fā)表“承擔(dān)責(zé)任”（Recognition of Responsibility）的誓言，表達(dá)北美人民關(guān)懷環(huán)境的心聲。

“Hello, I am Severn Suzuki speaking for E.C.O - the Environmental Childrenu2019s Organization. We are a group of 12 and 13 year-olds trying to make a difference, Vanessa Suttie, Morgan Geisler, Michelle Quigg and me. Weu2019ve raised all the money to come here ourselves, to come 5,000 miles to tell you adults you must change your ways. Coming up here today, I have no hidden agenda. I am fighting for my future. Losing my future is not like losing an election, or a few points on the stock market.”

“I am here to speak for all generations to come. I am here to speak on behalf of the starving children around the world whose cries go unheard. I am here to speak for the countless animals dying across this planet, because they have nowhere left to go. I am afraid to go out in the sun now, because of the holes in our ozone. I am afraid to breathe the air, because I donu2019t know what chemicals are in it. I used to go fishing in Vancouver, my home, with my Dad until, just a few years ago, we found a fish full of cancers. And now we hear of animals and plants going extinct every day, vanishing forever. In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals, jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterflies, but now I wonder if they will even exist for my children to see.”

“Did you have to worry of these things when you were my age? All this is happening before our eyes and yet we act as if we have all the time we want and all the solutions. Iu2019m only a child and I donu2019t have all the solutions, but I want you to realize, neither do you. You donu2019t know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer. You donu2019t know how to bring the salmon back up a dead stream. You donu2019t know how to bring back an animal now extinct. And you canu2019t bring back the forest that once grew where there is now a desert. If you donu2019t know how to fix it, please stop breaking it.”

“Here you may be delegates of your governments, business people, organizers, reporters or politicians. But, really, youu2019re mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles and all of you are someoneu2019s child. Iu2019m only a child, yet I know we are all part of a family, 5 billion strong, in fact 30 million species strong. And borders and governments will never change that. Iu2019m only a child, yet I know we are all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal.”

“In my anger, I am not blind and in my fear I am not afraid of telling the world how I feel. In my country we make so much waste, we buy and throw away, buy and throw away, buy and throw away and yet Northern countries will not share with the needy. Even when we have more than enough we are afraid to share, we are afraid to let go of some of our wealth. In Canada , we live the privileged life. Weu2019ve plenty of food, water and shelter. We have watches, bicycles, computers and television sets. The list could go on for 2 days. Two days ago here in Brazil , we were shocked when we spent time with some children living on the streets. This is what one child told us, u2018I wish I was rich and if I were, I would give all the street children food, clothes, medicines, shelter and love and affectionu2019. If a child on the street who has nothing is willing to share, why are we who have everything still so greedy? I canu2019t stop thinking that these are children my own age, that it makes a tremendous difference where you are born. And that I could be one of those children living in the favelas of Rio . I could be a child starving in Somalia , or a victim of war in the Middle East or a beggar in India . I am only a child, yet I know if all the money spent on war was spent on finding environmental answers ending poverty and in finding treaties, what a wonderful place this earth would be.”

“At school, even in kindergarten, you teach us how to behave in the world. You teach us to not to fight with others, to work things out, to respect others and to clean up our mess, not to hurt other creatures, to share, not be greedy. Then, why do you go out and do the things you tell us not to do? Do not forget why you are attending these conferences, who you are doing this for. We are your own children. You are deciding what kind of a world we are growing up in. Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying u2018Everything is going to be all right, itu2019s not the end of the world, and we are doing the best we canu2019. But I donu2019t think you can say that to us anymore. Are we even on your list of priorities? My dad always says, u2018You are what you do, not what you sayu2019. Well, what you do makes me cry at night. You grown-ups say you love us. But I challenge you, please, make your actions reflect your words. Thank you.”

我們是一個(gè)由十幾歲孩子組成的小群體，我們想改變些什么。我們自己掙錢(qián)支持我們旅行5000英里來(lái)到這里，只為告訴你們成年人，你們必須改變你們的生活方式。

今天我來(lái)到這里，我背后沒(méi)有任何經(jīng)紀(jì)人，我們?yōu)槲覀兊奈磥?lái)而戰(zhàn)。失去未來(lái)不像落選和股市浮動(dòng)那么簡(jiǎn)單，我來(lái)到這里是為了將來(lái)所有的世代而演講。我演講是為了世界所有忍受饑餓的兒童，而他們的哭泣卻無(wú)人聽(tīng)見(jiàn)。我為這個(gè)行星上無(wú)數(shù)正在垂死的動(dòng)物而演講，因?yàn)樗鼈儙缀跻呀?jīng)無(wú)處容身了。

我害怕曬太陽(yáng)，因?yàn)槌粞鯇映霈F(xiàn)了空洞。我害怕呼吸空氣，因?yàn)槲也恢�道那里有多少化學(xué)物質(zhì)。以前和我爸爸經(jīng)常在vancouver釣魚(yú)，但在近幾年卻發(fā)現(xiàn)魚(yú)的身上到處是癌細(xì)胞。我們每天都會(huì)聽(tīng)說(shuō)有的動(dòng)物和植物絕種，那是永遠(yuǎn)消失的事情。

我一生的夢(mèng)想就是能看到成群的野生動(dòng)物，茂盛的叢林和大片的雨林中到處是鳥(niǎo)類(lèi)和蝴蝶在飛舞。但是我想知道我們這些小孩是否還能再看到它們？在您那個(gè)年代，您曾經(jīng)擔(dān)心過(guò)我們擔(dān)心的事嗎？所有這一切就發(fā)生在我們眼前，然而我們還是一直向大自然無(wú)度索取我們所需要的。

我僅僅是個(gè)孩子，我不知道該怎么辦。但我們這些孩子-----這個(gè)星球的未來(lái)需要讓您認(rèn)識(shí)到，您不能說(shuō)沒(méi)辦法！您不知道怎么去修補(bǔ)大氣的臭氧空洞，您也不知道怎么去從死亡的河流中拯救魚(yú)類(lèi)，您更不知道如何把滅絕的動(dòng)物復(fù)蘇，您也不能把沙漠中從前完整的森林帶回來(lái)。如果您不知道如何拯救，那么請(qǐng)您停止破壞吧！

在這里，您可能是您政府商業(yè)人士的代表、組織者、記者或政客。但您們也是父親和母親、兄弟和姐妹、阿姨和叔叔，你們都會(huì)或多或少的為了下一代而活著。

我只是一個(gè)小孩，但我知道我們都是一個(gè)大家庭的成員，超過(guò)60億人的大家庭，以及超過(guò)三千萬(wàn)物種的大家庭，政府和國(guó)界永遠(yuǎn)都無(wú)法改變這個(gè)事實(shí)。我身為小孩都知道，我們?cè)诘厍虻哪赣H懷中都是孩子。我們應(yīng)該為了相同的目的進(jìn)行相同的行動(dòng)！然而事實(shí)卻讓我很憤怒，但我也很清醒，我雖然害怕，但我敢于告訴世界我真實(shí)的感受。

在我的祖國(guó)，我們制造了如此之多的垃圾，我們購(gòu)買(mǎi)商品，我們隨之丟棄，買(mǎi)來(lái)，再丟棄。。。然而有些國(guó)家，有些人，卻不會(huì)分享給那些真正需要的人們，甚至他們擁有的遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)超過(guò)自身需要的時(shí)候。他們害怕分享，害怕失去自己的財(cái)富。

在加拿大，他們過(guò)著特權(quán)般的生活，他們有很多食物、房子和水。他們擁有很多手表，汽車(chē)，各種電器和奢侈品。在巴西，我被2天前見(jiàn)到的情景震驚了，那時(shí)我和當(dāng)?shù)氐男『⒃谕嫠�，其中一個(gè)小孩說(shuō)：“我希望我能富裕起來(lái)，然后我會(huì)給這個(gè)街道所有的小孩飯吃，給他們衣服穿，醫(yī)療，住房和愛(ài)”。如果一個(gè)孩子在自己一無(wú)所有的時(shí)候都能愿意分享，為什么擁有一切的大人卻如此貪婪？

我永遠(yuǎn)不能忘記這些和我同齡的孩子，當(dāng)你出生的時(shí)候，他和我們真的很不相同，我也許生活在貧民窟，也可能是終日餓著肚子的小孩，也可能是中東戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)的犧牲品，或者印度的小乞丐。

我只是一個(gè)小孩，然而我知道，要是把花在戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)上的錢(qián)，用在找尋環(huán)境問(wèn)題答案上來(lái)，或用在結(jié)束貧窮并找到解決的方案上來(lái)，這個(gè)星球?qū)⑹莻�(gè)多么美好的地方�。�

在學(xué)校，甚至在幼稚園，你們大人教我們?nèi)绾翁幨�，你們告訴我們不要打架，要尊重對(duì)方。找出答案，解決矛盾。去分享，而不是貪婪。你們大人為什么去做與你們教導(dǎo)我們的相反的事情呢？

不要忘記你們?yōu)楹味鴣?lái)到這里開(kāi)會(huì)，你們?yōu)檎l(shuí)做事情？我們是你們的下一代，你們正在決定我們將要在一個(gè)什么樣的環(huán)境中成長(zhǎng)，父母需要能夠?qū)捨亢⒆觽儯�告訴他們“一切都沒(méi)問(wèn)題，那不是世界末日，我們正在盡其所能的改變”。但我不能再相信這樣的話了，孩子們還是你們的優(yōu)選名單嗎？

我爸爸總是說(shuō)：“聽(tīng)其言，觀其行，是認(rèn)識(shí)一個(gè)人最好的方法”。然而，你們所做的事讓我在夜晚哭泣，你們成年人說(shuō)你們愛(ài)我們，我不同意你們所說(shuō)，請(qǐng)讓你們的言行一致，知行合一！謝謝！
