Bad English這個樂團(tuán)是80年代后期西洋搖滾音樂界當(dāng)中曇花一現(xiàn)的經(jīng)典組合，雖然他們只推出過兩張專輯，卻也締造出「When I see you smile」和「Price of love」等等的暢銷金曲，所以就算他們樂團(tuán)的壽命不長，但還是讓搖滾歌迷難以忘懷。

其實(shí)，Bad English樂團(tuán)的成員，每個人都來頭不小，讓我們首先從主唱John Waite說起。John Waite本身在80年代就是一位知名的暢銷男歌手，之前他曾經(jīng)在1976年跟鍵盤手Jonathan Cain、以及幾位好朋友合組了一支叫做「The Babys」的樂團(tuán)，但是他們只推出了三張專輯就解散了，於是John Waite就單飛出唱片。后來1984年，正當(dāng)John Waite以「Missing you」這首歌曲走紅的時候，他卻又興起了組團(tuán)的念頭，於是就邀請過去The Babys樂團(tuán)的伙伴們，重新來過，開始寫歌創(chuàng)作。

只不過，萬事具備、只欠東風(fēng)，這個時候的他們雖然稱得上是一組樂團(tuán)，可是還欠缺一位厲害的吉他手。終於，后來他們遇見了Neal Schon。 Neal Schon他本來是經(jīng)典搖滾團(tuán)體Journey合唱團(tuán)里面的靈魂人物，是一位天才型的吉他好手，他在18歲的時候，先加入了也是很經(jīng)典的團(tuán)體Santana，之后在1973年組成了Journey樂團(tuán)，經(jīng)歷過這個團(tuán)體最輝煌的時期。后來到了1987年，Journey樂團(tuán)解散之后，Neal Schon就單飛推出吉他演奏專輯，受到音樂界的好評，結(jié)果就在一次的巧遇之下，他在錄音室遇見了John Waite他們一群人，知道他們正在找一位吉他手，於是就加入了他們，同時還找來了一位強(qiáng)而有力的鼓手Deen Castronovo一起合作，於是，Bad English這個團(tuán)體就這么產(chǎn)生了。

1989年，Bad English推出他們的創(chuàng)團(tuán)同名專輯，并且以主打歌曲「When I see you smile」登上了Billboard熱門單曲榜的冠軍。這首歌曲是西洋流行歌壇的創(chuàng)作金手Diane Warren所譜寫的作品，它被灌錄的過程段還有一段小插曲，那就是，這首作品本來是要寫給另一組樂團(tuán)Sheriff來演唱的，可是這組團(tuán)體并不喜歡，他們放棄演唱這首歌。而Bad English樂團(tuán)他們一開始也是堅持要自己唱自己所寫的歌，但是因?yàn)橹鞒狫ohn Waite跟Diane Warren是老朋友，所以就把這首歌拿來灌錄，沒想到就成為了這個樂團(tuán)的經(jīng)典代表作。

When I See You Smile（當(dāng)我看到你微笑）是搖滾隊伍“Bad English 壞英國人合唱團(tuán)”89年全美流行單曲榜雙周冠軍的動人情歌，單曲銷售達(dá)金唱片，專輯銷售則獲頒白金唱片認(rèn)證。這也是電視劇“流星花園”中道明寺與葉莎之歌。
