研究方向：主要采用比較形態(tài)學(xué)、細胞分類學(xué)和分子系統(tǒng)學(xué)的方法從事半翅目和雙翅目癭蚊科昆蟲的生物系統(tǒng)學(xué)、生物地理學(xué)和進化生物學(xué)研究。

中國昆蟲學(xué)會理事，中國昆蟲學(xué)會昆蟲分類學(xué)專業(yè)委員會副主任，天津市動物學(xué)會副理事長，國家自然科學(xué)基金委員會生命科學(xué)部第九、十屆學(xué)科評議組成員，《中國動物志》、《動物分類學(xué)報》編委。

1962年12月生。1980－1990年在南開大學(xué)生物系學(xué)習(xí)，1990年獲理學(xué)博士學(xué)位（昆蟲學(xué)方向），隨后任教至今。其中1996年8月至1998年11月赴美國訪問和進行博士后工作。1998年12月晉升為教授。

獲國家級優(yōu)秀教學(xué)成果二等獎（第二獲獎人）和天津市第三屆優(yōu)秀教學(xué)成果一等獎（第二獲獎人）。
