早年經(jīng)歷
奈杰爾·霍桑1929年出生于英格蘭的考文垂，其母為艾格尼絲·羅斯瑪麗，其父為查爾斯·巴納德·霍桑，一位醫(yī)生。他在南非長大并且其間就讀于開普敦的圣喬治文法學(xué)校和那里的基督教兄弟學(xué)院。他被開普敦大學(xué)錄取但是后來退學(xué)，并在二十世紀(jì)五十年代返回英國開始了他的表演生涯。
演藝經(jīng)歷
奈杰爾·霍桑于50-80年代的工作是出演舞臺劇。他在80年代出演BBC電視臺的電視劇是，大臣(Yes Minister)里的Humphrey Appleby爵士，這一角色為他贏得了國際聲望。而后他出演由舞臺劇改編的電影喬治王的瘋狂(The Madness of King George)，讓他獲得了奧斯卡最佳男主角的提名。
個人生活
奈杰爾·霍桑不愿過多談?wù)撟约旱乃缴睿?995年參加奧斯卡頒獎典禮時，不滿公眾關(guān)注他在1992年公開同性戀身份的事。但是，他和他的長期伴侶Trevor Bentham一起出席了那屆典禮，并且在接受媒體采訪時談?wù)摯耸拢谒篮蟪霭娴淖詡鳌犊囍槨?Straight Face)也有記錄。
人物去世
霍桑在接受了幾次胰腺癌手術(shù)后，死于術(shù)后并發(fā)癥-心臟病，享年72歲。他被葬于英國赫特福德的一個教堂。
