出生于加拿大的 Jewison，五歲便開(kāi)始在舞臺(tái)上的職業(yè)演出。從多倫多的維多利亞大學(xué)畢業(yè)后，他因緣際會(huì)的進(jìn)入了加拿大廣播電臺(tái)（CBC）擔(dān)綱廣播劇中的一個(gè)角色，這段期間他也靠兼職的計(jì)程車司機(jī)為生。隨后，他赴英國(guó)就讀 BBC 在倫敦所開(kāi)的兩年制訓(xùn)練課程，回國(guó)后，便開(kāi)始在 CBC 編劇、導(dǎo)演及制作了許多受歡迎的音樂(lè)劇、廣播劇、喜劇綜藝節(jié)目等，一晃眼就七年過(guò)去了。導(dǎo)演之路
1958年，Jewison 接受紐約 CBS 的邀請(qǐng)，赴美導(dǎo)演音樂(lè)劇連續(xù)劇【"Your Hit Parade"】。隨后又導(dǎo)演了許多電視特別節(jié)目，合作對(duì)象包括：Harry Belafonte、已過(guò)世的金球獎(jiǎng)雙項(xiàng)影后 Danny Kaye、已過(guò)世的金球獎(jiǎng)影后 Judy Garland（【綠野仙蹤】女主角）。
1962年，他的電影處女作問(wèn)世，由當(dāng)時(shí)聞名全球的 Tony Curtis（潔李米寇蒂絲的爸爸）主演的喜劇片【Forty Pounds of Trouble】。隨后又有三部愛(ài)情喜劇片：兩部由當(dāng)時(shí)聞名全球的 Doris Day 主演的【The Thrill of It All】及【Send Me No Flowers】，另一部為 Jewison 自編自導(dǎo)并由當(dāng)時(shí)聞名全球的 Steve McQueen（【圣保羅炮艇】男主角）主演的【The Cincinnati Kid】。
多元化
自此之后，Jewison 的電影開(kāi)始朝向更多元的風(fēng)格邁進(jìn)。有尖銳的政治諷刺電影【俄國(guó)人來(lái)了】（The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!）、也有迎合主流市場(chǎng)口味的【The Thomas Crown Affair】、更有榮獲1967年奧斯卡最佳影片等５項(xiàng)大獎(jiǎng)的火爆電影【惡夜追緝令】（In the Heat of the Night）、還有華麗典雅的古裝片【Gaily, Gaily】、激烈的諷刺片【義勇急先鋒】（...And Justice for All）。音樂(lè)片科幻片
他也導(dǎo)演了兩部改編自百老匯舞臺(tái)音樂(lè)劇的名作：【屋頂上的提琴手】（Fiddler on the Roof）及【萬(wàn)世巨星】（Jesus Christ Superstar）。還有未來(lái)科幻片【Rollerball】、愛(ài)情喜劇片【Best Friends】、造成話題的政治片【拳頭大風(fēng)暴】（F.I.S.T.）。1984年，他自制自導(dǎo)了【大兵的故事】（A Soldier’s Story），本部改編自 Charles Fuller 榮獲普立茲獎(jiǎng)的小說(shuō)，在該年亦被提名了奧斯卡金像獎(jiǎng)包含最佳影片等３項(xiàng)大獎(jiǎng)。同年 Jewison 還制作了【Iceman】。

喜劇名片
1987年，Jewison 導(dǎo)演了轟動(dòng)當(dāng)時(shí)的喜劇片【發(fā)暈】（Moonstruck），并榮獲了奧斯卡３項(xiàng)大獎(jiǎng)：最佳女主角 Cher（就是名歌手雪兒）、最佳女配角 Olympia Dukakis（【春風(fēng)化雨１９９６】的校長(zhǎng)）、最佳原著劇本的編劇家 John Patrick Shanley。1988年，Jewison 制作了由 Shanley 所編劇的【耀武揚(yáng)威】（January Man），本片由 Kevin Kline（【冒牌總統(tǒng)】）及奧斯卡影后 Susan Sarandon（【親親小媽】）主演。
Jewison 接下來(lái)導(dǎo)了【冷暖天涯】（In Country）。1991年導(dǎo)了【Other People’s Money】，由 Danny DeVito 和 Penelope Ann Miller 主演，此部正好是 Jewison 從影29年來(lái)的第25部電影。
1994年，Jewison 自制自導(dǎo)了愛(ài)情喜劇片【只有為你】（Only You），由奧斯卡最佳女配角 Marisa Tomei、Robert Downey, Jr.（【絕命追殺令：就地正法】的大壞蛋）及 Bonnie Hunt（【野蠻游戲】女主角、【征服情�！颗鹘擎㈡ⅲ┲餮�。同年，也擔(dān)任了兩部電視電影的執(zhí)行制作：美國(guó) TNT 的【Geronimo】以及加拿大的【Dance Me Outside】。
最近，Jewison 的新片為【奶爸也瘋狂】（Bogus），由奧斯卡最佳女配角也是本屆奧斯卡頒獎(jiǎng)典禮的主持人 Whoopi Goldberg（【修女也瘋狂】）及法國(guó)影帝 Gerard Depardieu（【大鼻子情圣】、【綠卡】、【鐵面人】三劍客里最色最胖的）。
榮譽(yù)
1982年，Jewison 獲頒加拿大政府給予的榮譽(yù)勛章，代表加拿大成為杰出的代表。1986年十一月，Jewison 建立了加拿大電影中心，提供加拿大的年輕影人有個(gè)更好的拍片環(huán)境及機(jī)會(huì)。在成立第八年時(shí)，這里已經(jīng)是個(gè)國(guó)際級(jí)的電影中心，并提供許多世界想要學(xué)習(xí)電影的人的最好去處之一。參與的電影
