主要學(xué)術(shù)經(jīng)歷：

先后在美國紐約大學(xué)，布魯克海汶國家實(shí)驗(yàn)室，德國卡爾斯魯大學(xué)進(jìn)行博士后研究。
1972年回國，在中國科學(xué)院福建物質(zhì)結(jié)構(gòu)研究所工作。1995年調(diào)入中山大學(xué)。
康北笙教授曾任福建省人民代表大會常務(wù)委員會副主任（六，七屆）。
全國政協(xié)委員（五屆），全國青年聯(lián)合會五屆委員。
福建省科協(xié)二，三，四屆副主席，中國科協(xié)四屆委員會委員。
中國化學(xué)會理事，中國科學(xué)院福建物質(zhì)結(jié)構(gòu)研究所研究員。
香港中文大學(xué)客座教授，《結(jié)構(gòu)化學(xué)》副主編等職。
現(xiàn)任國務(wù)院學(xué)位委員會學(xué)科評議組成員。

教學(xué)方面：

曾為研究生開設(shè)《金屬有機(jī)化學(xué)》，《現(xiàn)代物理化學(xué)專題》等專業(yè)課，為本科生介紹《固氮酶及其化學(xué)模擬》。
目前為本科生講授《化學(xué)專業(yè)英語》。
近年來開展低維和三維功能超分子化合物和分子聚集體的研究，包括合成，結(jié)構(gòu)，譜學(xué)及物理化學(xué)性質(zhì)如光，電，磁等性質(zhì)。
曾主持或主要參加十多項(xiàng)包括國家攀登、國家自然科學(xué)基金重大、重點(diǎn)、面上、科學(xué)院“七五”、“八五”重大、以及國家重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室、省自然科學(xué)基金，博士點(diǎn)基金等項(xiàng)目。
發(fā)表學(xué)術(shù)論文300余篇，參與三本國內(nèi)外出版專著的編寫。
多次獲中國科學(xué)院自然科學(xué)獎。
已培養(yǎng)二十余名博士后，博士生，和碩士生。

RESEARCH INTEREST
Syntheses, structures and physico-chemical properties of transition metal coordination complexes, cluster compounds, and supramolecular complexes, including crystal structural, spectroscopical, electrochemical, and magnetic investigations. Structural regularities are studied, cluster formation mechanisms are interpreted, and crystal engineering processes are investigated via unit construction processes of simple structural units (building blocks)----mononuclear stable or metastable complexes or intermediates.
