簡介
杰弗里·瓊斯(Geoffrey G. Jones)出生在英國伯明翰,曾就讀于劍橋大學(xué)。瓊斯教授擁有英國劍橋大學(xué)學(xué)士、碩士與博士學(xué)位,是哥本哈根商學(xué)院經(jīng)濟(jì)與工商管理榮譽(yù)博士。在獲得博士學(xué)位后,他在劍橋大學(xué)Corpus Christi學(xué)院當(dāng)研究員。后來,他成為倫敦政治經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)院經(jīng)濟(jì)史講師,并被聘為雷丁大學(xué)企業(yè)史教授。1997年,他創(chuàng)辦了雷丁大學(xué)國際企業(yè)史中心。瓊斯教授曾在1992-1993年、2000-2001年兩度作為企業(yè)史學(xué)家協(xié)會的主席,于1997-1999年出任歐洲企業(yè)史協(xié)會主席, 2001-2002年任美國企業(yè)史年會主席。2002年,他開始在哈佛商學(xué)院任教。哈佛大學(xué)是1929年企業(yè)史學(xué)科的誕生地亦是目前世界企業(yè)史研究的中心。2012年,哈佛商學(xué)院企業(yè)史研究中心成立,由瓊斯教授領(lǐng)導(dǎo)的團(tuán)隊(duì)開始了對于“創(chuàng)造新興市場”(Creating Emerging Markets)的研究,以此來促進(jìn)新興市場企業(yè)史的研究與教學(xué),此項(xiàng)目包含訪談長期在拉丁美洲、東亞和東南亞、土耳其和非洲擔(dān)任企業(yè)與非政府組織的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者。這期間瓊斯教授的研究集中在全球化及跨國公司的歷史演變。近些年,瓊斯教授則更多關(guān)注綠色行業(yè)和可持續(xù)發(fā)展的歷史研究。2017年4月瓊斯教授推出了他最新出版的著作《Profits and Sustainability-A History of Green Entrepreneurship》。全球能源日趨緊張,環(huán)境問題日益突出已經(jīng)成為了當(dāng)前世界面臨的重要難題,而實(shí)現(xiàn)可持續(xù)發(fā)展是企業(yè)家最重要的使命。該書回顧了自19世紀(jì)以來綠色企業(yè)家精神從無到有的發(fā)展歷程,并從企業(yè)史的視角出發(fā)探討了綠色企業(yè)家的動機(jī),以及他們?nèi)绾谓⒉l(fā)展自己的企業(yè)。該書所涉足的研究領(lǐng)域包括可再生能源、有機(jī)食品、美容、生態(tài)旅游、建筑乃至金融業(yè)等不同行業(yè),研究范圍涵蓋世界五大洲的主要國家。不同于傳統(tǒng)企業(yè)家單純逐利的本質(zhì),綠色企業(yè)家在堅(jiān)持可持續(xù)發(fā)展的同時,需要保持企業(yè)的盈利性并不斷地進(jìn)行創(chuàng)新,這些企業(yè)家曾經(jīng)所作出的努力已被當(dāng)今國際社會及消費(fèi)者所認(rèn)可。書中特別提及中國企業(yè)近年來在風(fēng)能、太陽能等可再生能源領(lǐng)域所做出的突出貢獻(xiàn)。
2017年3月瓊斯教授受邀訪問中國,在福建師范大學(xué)發(fā)表題為《Why Business History Matters》的演講,并參加了由《東南學(xué)術(shù)》雜志社主辦的“企業(yè)史研究與經(jīng)濟(jì)全球化”專題研討會,會上杰弗里·瓊斯教授做了“企業(yè)史研究與經(jīng)濟(jì)全球化”的主旨演講。
杰弗里·瓊斯教授與他領(lǐng)導(dǎo)的團(tuán)隊(duì)延續(xù)了“創(chuàng)新理論”鼻祖、管理學(xué)與經(jīng)濟(jì)史學(xué)大師熊彼特(Joseph Schumpeter)企業(yè)家史的成就以及企業(yè)史學(xué)大師錢德勒(Alfred D. Chandler Jr.)所開拓的企業(yè)史的研究成果,他的研究代表了當(dāng)今世界企業(yè)史研究的最高水平。

1.因《管理政治風(fēng)險在全球業(yè)務(wù): 拜爾斯道夫公司1914 - 1990》(Managing Political Risk in Global Business: Beiersdorf 1914-1990, Enterprise & Society ,2012)一文,杰弗里·瓊斯與合著作者克里斯蒂娜·魯賓斯基一同榮獲2013年牛津出版社年度最佳論文獎。
2.《從商人到跨國公司》(Merchants to Multinationals,Oxford University Press, 2000)一書被譽(yù)為英國企業(yè)史上最杰出的圖書之一,杰弗里·瓊斯因此榮獲2000年度沃茲沃思獎(Wadsworth Prize),該書同時榮獲美國企業(yè)史紐科門-哈佛獎(Newcomen-Harvard Award)。
3. 因2011年出版《美麗戰(zhàn)爭:化妝品巨頭全球爭霸史》(Beauty Imagined: A History of the Global Beauty Industry,Oxford University Press, 2010)一書被評為美容行業(yè)May Ushiyama名譽(yù)教授,該書中文版一經(jīng)出版在中國市場廣受歡迎。
