研究領(lǐng)域?yàn)榛瘜W(xué)生態(tài)學(xué)。主持國(guó)家攻關(guān)項(xiàng)目、國(guó)家攀登項(xiàng)目、“973”項(xiàng)目、國(guó)家基金項(xiàng)目、中科院重大項(xiàng)目、中科院重點(diǎn)項(xiàng)目及國(guó)際合作等20余項(xiàng)。共發(fā)表文章150余篇，其中發(fā)表于SCI源刊物的文章30余篇。獲發(fā)明專(zhuān)利5項(xiàng)。1994年獲政府特殊津貼。共培養(yǎng)博士碩士21名。

1984年至1986年曾在英國(guó)洛桑實(shí)驗(yàn)站（Rothamsted Experimental Station）進(jìn)行合作研究。
