經(jīng)歷
1880年即成為該劇院的經(jīng)理；1901年，來到百老匯從事表演。
1906年他同妻子艾瓦u2022蕙爾絲一起創(chuàng)建了科本莎士比亞劇團，專演莎翁各部名劇。
1933年，這位莎劇名優(yōu)以《主子的禮服》一片初登銀幕。之后他主演了許多影片。但是好萊塢的明星制限制了他在戲路上的開拓。結(jié)果他只能作為性格演員，扮演外表嚴厲但內(nèi)心脆弱的商人或政治家之類的角色。
1943年，科本憑其精湛的演技突破了這一類型，以影片《二房東小姐》(The More the Merrier原名《人越多越快活》)捧得奧斯卡獎最佳男配角桂冠。這是一部喜劇風格的影片，描寫二次大戰(zhàn)時華盛頓市內(nèi)住房困難情形：一個政府女雇員將自己一套房間的一半借給一個上了年紀的工業(yè)家，而他又將這一半的一半房間借給一個無處可宿的飛機機械師。片中的工業(yè)家就由科本扮演，他生動地刻畫出這個老頭的熱情又幽默性格。
這位獎主晚年還登上電視熒屏，并到英國去拍了數(shù)部影片。他于1961年病逝。
