生平
史蒂文斯于 1951 年出生于北 Rhodesia 的 Luanshya。他的父親在當?shù)氐囊患毅~廠工作。他的家曾先后搬到鹽湖城、Hurley、新墨西哥、華盛頓和南非的 Phalaborwa。史蒂文斯曾就讀于位于弗吉尼亞Waynesboro的Fishburne 軍校。并于1973年取得了密歇根大學的航天工程工科學士學位，于1978年取得工科碩士學位，于1982年取得了亞利桑那大學的系統(tǒng)工程學博士學位。他于1975年搬到了 Tucson 并受雇于當?shù)氐?Kitt Peak國家天文臺擔任程序員工作，并在那里工作到1982年。 從1982年到1990年，他在位于New Haven, CT的Health Systems International擔任計算機服務(wù)副總監(jiān)。他于1990年搬回了 Tucson 在他的專業(yè)領(lǐng)域從事寫作和顧問工作�！∷�20世紀70年還曾狂熱地從事飛行運動并擔任兼職飛行教練工作。
