裴宜理（Elizabeth J. Perry），女，1948年出生于上海。

現(xiàn)任哈佛大學(xué)政治系講座教授、哈佛燕京學(xué)社社長。
人物生平
1951年，隨父母從中國上海遷居日本東京，在日本度過童年；
裴宜理作安源工人運動與中國革命的報告[1]
1969年，畢業(yè)于紐約威廉·史密斯學(xué)院（WilliamSmithCollege），獲政治學(xué)學(xué)士學(xué)位；
1971年，獲華盛頓大學(xué)政治學(xué)碩士學(xué)位；
1978年，獲密歇根大學(xué)政治學(xué)博士學(xué)位，
1972年起，先后執(zhí)教于密歇根大學(xué)、亞利桑那大學(xué)、華盛頓大學(xué)、加州大學(xué)伯克利分校、哈佛大學(xué)。
1997年起，任教于哈佛大學(xué)政治系，并先后出任費正清研究中心主任及亞洲研究學(xué)會主席。
主要研究方向
中國近代以來的農(nóng)民問題研究；中國工人運動研究；中國社會和政治研究；美國的中國問題研究。
于建嶸教授與裴宜理教授在哈佛大學(xué)
裴宜理的博士論文研究華北農(nóng)動，討論華北的自然與經(jīng)濟地理條件對暴力的形成有何影響。1979年第一次回到中國之后，她開始轉(zhuǎn)向中國工人運動的研究。學(xué)術(shù)研究的這一特別轉(zhuǎn)向，得益于上海社會科學(xué)院老院長張仲禮的友善提醒和幫助。當(dāng)年，張仲禮對裴宜理說：“你出生在上海，應(yīng)該研究上海，研究上海的工人運動。”裴宜理的研究特別關(guān)注工人文化及其與工作場所的關(guān)系，并將之與歐洲和美國勞工史相比較，由此探究上海工人的起源及其政治傾向、群眾運動與國家形成之間的聯(lián)系�！睹绹鴼v史評論》評價她“兼具社會科學(xué)家對秩序的熱愛與歷史學(xué)家捕捉精彩故事的眼睛”。2005年左右，裴宜理接受中國社會科學(xué)院于建嶸教授的邀請，將視角轉(zhuǎn)向安源煤礦工人，以此為案例探討中國共產(chǎn)黨對文化資源的創(chuàng)造性發(fā)展與運用。[2]

Perry is Henry Rosovsky Professor of Government.She is a comparativist with special expertise in the politics of China.A fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the recipientof a Guggenheim fellowship, she sits on the editorial boards of nearlya dozen major scholarly journals and is the current President of theAssociation for Asian Studies. Professor Perry’s research focuses onpopular protest and grassroots politics in modern and contemporaryChina.
