德范克 - 基本信息
德范克（John DeFrancis，1911年8月31日－2009年1月2日），美國漢學(xué)家，語言學(xué)家，夏威夷大學(xué)（Hawaii University）榮譽中文教授。

1911年8月31日出生。
1933年德范克獲耶魯大學(xué)學(xué)士學(xué)位。
1941年獲哥倫比亞大學(xué)碩士學(xué)位。
1948年獲哥倫比亞大學(xué)博士（中、日文）學(xué)位。
1933年至1936年，曾到遠東留學(xué)和從事研究，在中國、朝鮮、日本各地旅行。
1947年至1954年，任西東大學(xué)（Seton Hall University）中文研究教授。
1950年至1955年，任《美國東方社會雜志》（《Journal of the American Oriental Society》）副編輯。
1966年至1976年任夏威夷大學(xué)中文教授。
1964年至1966年曾任美國中國語言教師協(xié)會會長。
1966年至1978年任《中國語言教師協(xié)會雜志》（Journal of the Chinese Language Teachers Association）副編輯。
2009年1月2日逝世。
德范克 - 學(xué)術(shù)貢獻
1960、1970年代，德范克編寫了大量中文教材。雖然他編寫的部分中文口語教材現(xiàn)在已顯得過時，但并不影響他中文與語言學(xué)研究的成就。德范克最著名的學(xué)術(shù)作品是《漢語：事實和幻想》（The Chinese Language: Fact and Fantasy），他在這本書中駁斥了一些關(guān)于漢語的普遍錯誤概念，同時也在多種問題上闡述了自己的理論。
以美國著名的漢語專家、夏威夷大學(xué)現(xiàn)任的榮譽中文教授德范克主編的《ABC漢英大詞典》(ABC Alphabetically Based Computerized Chinese-English Comprehensive Dictionary)在美國版之前先于2003年4月在中國上海漢語大詞典出版社出版，這是世界漢英詞典編纂史上的一塊里程碑，是漢英編纂事業(yè)的重大創(chuàng)新。
《ABC漢英大詞典》是在德范克教授1996年由夏威夷大學(xué)出版社出版的《漢英詞典》(ABC Chinese-English Dictionary 中國漢語大詞典出版社1997年8月初版)的基礎(chǔ)上編纂而成。這兩部詞典的最大特色，是以單一字母順序排列詞條而不用漢字字形排列詞條的編排方法，這是漢英詞典編纂方法的重大突破。然而，《漢英詞典》只收71344詞條，是一部中小型的詞典，而《ABC漢英大詞典》則收196373條，是一部大型的詞典，比任何其他漢英大詞典的收詞都要多，是迄今為止世界上收詞最多、篇幅最大的漢英大詞典。
