構(gòu)造地質(zhì)學(xué)、造山帶大地構(gòu)造學(xué)

以構(gòu)造地質(zhì)學(xué)和大地構(gòu)造相解剖相為基礎(chǔ)，結(jié)合地球化學(xué)與地球物理等資料，在中國西部中亞造山帶和昆侖造山帶等進(jìn)行增生造山作用過程及其特征研究，并根據(jù)增生楔－增生楔碰撞造山作用等特征提出復(fù)式增生－碰撞增生造山作用理論。

主要從事特提斯和中亞造山帶造山與成礦作用等研究。通過野外解剖和年代學(xué)工作，確定了西昆侖造山帶復(fù)雜的活動陸緣體系及其屬性、構(gòu)造樣式與形成時代，厘定了疊加在早古生代拼貼體之上的巖漿弧和增生楔雜巖，探討了早古生代-早中生代向南復(fù)合增生造山作用特征；系統(tǒng)分析了中亞造山帶與弧相關(guān)的活動陸緣組分的時空分布特征，獲得寒武紀(jì)古亞洲洋年代學(xué)證據(jù)，提出西伯利亞南緣在古生代發(fā)生多向增生、形成寬闊的增生拼貼構(gòu)造帶，建立增生楔-增生楔拼貼復(fù)雜增生造山作用新的工作模型，并指出復(fù)式增生造山作用是顯生宙中亞大陸增生的主要機(jī)制之一。

已經(jīng)發(fā)表科研論著200余篇（部），其中SCI 論文140余篇，國際刊物客座編輯專輯10部。截至2014年11月，122篇文章Web of Science引用4988次，H指數(shù)35；Google scholar citations 8072次，H指數(shù)45；入選2014年全球高引用科學(xué)家名錄，2010進(jìn)入全球地球科學(xué)家SCI論文高引用；曾在國際學(xué)術(shù)會議做全會邀請報告，曾任國際會議主席和專題召集人；2007任國家科技部973項目首席科學(xué)家，2007獲國家杰出青年科學(xué)基金
