1981 年獲北京郵電大學(xué)與郵電研究院聯(lián)合培養(yǎng)的系統(tǒng)工程專業(yè)工學(xué)碩士學(xué)位
1990 年獲加拿大蒙特利爾市 康考迪亞大學(xué)計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)系哲學(xué)博士學(xué)位

主要成就
⑴ 首次提出了文本分析和理解的理論框架,第一次將 熵原理、小波和分形理論引入了文本分析。
⑵ 首次提出了基于分形特征的非層次文本分析法。提出了可適應(yīng)的文本圖像分割方法及提出了基于四方向鄰近圖的表格描述和處理方法。
⑶ 首次提出了基于小波多分辯分析的文本分析法。提出了基于小波的新投影方法。
⑷ 首次提出了基于四方向鄰近圖的表格文本的描述和處理方法。
⑸ 發(fā)展和完善了不同結(jié)構(gòu)奇異性信號(hào)分析和分類理論。
⑹ 構(gòu)造了適于模式識(shí)別特殊用途的新型 小波函數(shù),提出基于新小波函數(shù)理論的形狀分析和新的骨架抽取理論的建立。
人物詳述
唐遠(yuǎn)炎教授被評(píng)選為國(guó)際電子與電機(jī)工程協(xié)會(huì)院士(IEEE Fellow)和 國(guó)際模式識(shí)別協(xié)會(huì)院士(IAPR Fellow)。兼任中國(guó)電子學(xué)會(huì)信號(hào)處理學(xué)會(huì)委員, 香港浸會(huì)大學(xué)計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)系講座教授。
2005年中科院院士增選信息技術(shù)科學(xué)部有效候選人之一。有二十余篇發(fā)表于國(guó)際權(quán)威的 IEEE期刊上,例如本領(lǐng)域SCI影響因子最高的IEEE Trans PAMI 等。其中80篇被SCI收錄,92篇被EI收錄。研究成果產(chǎn)生了重要的、廣泛的影響,已被國(guó)內(nèi)外同行專家學(xué)者大量引用,SCI他引多達(dá)184次,得到了國(guó)際權(quán)威專家在國(guó)際著名IEEE期刊中SCI影響因子最大的IEEE Trans PAMI等刊物上的多次引用和充分肯定。唐遠(yuǎn)炎教授創(chuàng)辦了首本(目前也是唯一的一本)有關(guān)小波分析理論及其應(yīng)用的國(guó)際刊物(International Journal of Wavelets,Multiresolution and Information Processing) 并擔(dān)任主編。2005年起IJWMIP已成為SCI檢索期刊源。因其在小波分析、模式識(shí)別以及文本分析和識(shí)別諸方面所做出的杰出貢獻(xiàn)。在2002年國(guó)際模式識(shí)別大會(huì)上,唐遠(yuǎn)炎教授帶領(lǐng)的申辦小組以他們?cè)趪?guó)際上的學(xué)術(shù)成就贏得來(lái)自全世界九十多個(gè)國(guó)家的專家的支持和認(rèn)可,首次為中國(guó)成功申辦了2006年國(guó)際模式識(shí)別大會(huì)(在香港特區(qū)舉行)---國(guó)際模式識(shí)別領(lǐng)域這一象征最高榮譽(yù)的國(guó)際學(xué)術(shù)會(huì)議(ICPR),并擔(dān)任主席,特區(qū)政府前特首董建華先生親自發(fā)信表示支持(目前亞洲僅有日本舉辦過(guò))。
