一直從事隕石學(xué)與天體化學(xué)領(lǐng)域的研究工作,包括在極端還原隕石中首次發(fā)現(xiàn)超新星成因的氮化硅和新類型的超新星成因碳化硅;在隕石中首次發(fā)現(xiàn)滅絕核素36Cl存在的直接證據(jù),給出太陽星云初始的(36Cl/35Cl)比值,不僅有力支持滅絕核素超新星爆發(fā)成因的理論,并且36Cl將成為研究太陽系早期低溫過程的新的同位素時(shí)鐘;發(fā)現(xiàn)新的富Ca, Al包體類型,揭示不同富Ca, Al包體之間的成因聯(lián)系,構(gòu)建了太陽星云早期的演化框圖,提出不同化學(xué)群隕石富Ca, Al包體同成因和同來源的觀點(diǎn)和證據(jù);首次發(fā)現(xiàn)EL3型隕石,確證EH和EL群隕石具有獨(dú)立的母體,揭示極端還原條件下星云凝聚和母體熱變質(zhì)的特征,建立了EH群母體撞擊破碎再重新堆積的新模型;對火星和灶神星等特殊隕石開展研究,揭示它們各自復(fù)雜的巖漿演化、沖擊變質(zhì)等歷史,并在火星隕石中發(fā)現(xiàn)多種次生礦物及其集合體。
其他研究方向還包括月球的形成和演化、隕石的分類,隕石的沖擊變質(zhì),地外物質(zhì)的化學(xué)組成,地外物質(zhì)的同位素組成,地質(zhì)界線與地外撞擊事件,以及南極隕石與宇宙塵的野外考察和回收等。
