生平
基拉爾在波蘭卡托維茲省立音樂學院學習，1955年以最優(yōu)成績畢業(yè)。1955年至1958年間他在克拉科夫省立音樂學院繼續(xù)學習，師從鋼琴家和作曲家波萊斯瓦夫·沃伊特維茨（Boles?aw Woytowicz）。1959年到1960年他在巴黎繼續(xù)深造，師從納迪婭·布朗熱（Nadia Boulanger）。
他屬于60年代波蘭先鋒派運動。他的管弦樂作品《Krzesany》（登到山頂）從1974年開始著名，不過從1970年代中期開始他成為一名著名的電影作曲家，為超過100部波蘭、法國、德國和好萊塢電影配曲，與導演羅曼·波蘭斯基、弗朗西斯·科波拉和珍·康萍等合作。
他還創(chuàng)作交響音樂，室內(nèi)樂和樂器獨奏作品。2001年1月華沙國家愛樂樂團首演了他的作品《Missa pro pace》。 這部作品為了紀念樂團百年華誕而作。同年12月，在梵蒂岡為若望·保祿二世演奏該曲。
